Belok Zok Mite belongs to the group of beta blockers and is among others used to treat high blood pressure.

Metoprolol

General

Beloc Zok Mite® contains the active ingredient metoprolol in a dose of 47.5 mg. Further doses are 95 mg (Beloc Zok®) and 190 mg (Beloc Zok forte®).
The drug is a so-called sustained release preparation, which means that the active ingredient is released in the body with a delay. On the one hand the effect lasts longer, on the other hand the occurrence of sudden very high drug concentrations is avoided, which in turn reduces the risk of side effects.
Metoprolol belongs to the group of beta blockers. It is widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases but also for the preventive treatment of migraines (migraine prophylaxis).
Metoprolol is one of the most frequently used beta blockers in Germany.

Application and indication

Belok Zok Mite® is used to treat high blood pressure (arterial hypertension), coronary artery disease (KHK), tachycardiac arrhythmias (i.e. cardiac arrhythmias in which the heart beats too fast), chronic compensated (i.e. more stable) Heart failure, functional heart problems and for Migraine prophylaxis.
Beta blockers reduce mortality after acute myocardial infarction and are used here at an early stage, provided the patient is stable. Also in the Reinfarction prophylaxis after a heart attack they play an important role and are used by default, provided there are no contraindications.

Dosage of Beloc Zok Mite®

The dose depends on the disease being treated with Beloc Zok Mite®.

  • At high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and functional heart disease the usual daily dose is included 50-100 mg Metoprolol, taken in 1-2 single doses. The maximum daily dose is 200 mg.
  • At Cardiac arrhythmias, to Reinfarction prophylaxis as well as for Migraine prophylaxis daily doses are between 100 and 200 mg administered, again in 1-2 single doses.
  • At the acute heart attack - provided the patient is stable - at the beginning 5 mg Belok Zok Mite® administered intravenously, this can be repeated every few minutes. The maximum dose is 15 mg intravenously. If the dose is well tolerated, a switch should be made to oral administration in the form of tablets, starting with a dose of 25-50 mg. If this is tolerated, it is increased individually to 100-200 mg within 48 hours.

It is essential to note that therapy with Beloc Zok Mite® not abruptly canceled as it significantly increases the risk of a heart attack or sudden cardiac death.

Side effects

The following side effects may occur, especially when starting treatment with Belok Zok Mite®:

  • fatigue, sleep disorders and Nightmares

Belok Zok Mite® can do one Hypoglycaemia (Hypoglycemia) with pre-existing diabetes mellitus favor and the Warning symptoms (Sweating, trembling, racing heart) disguise. It should therefore only be used cautiously in diabetics and under regular control.

Interactions

The following drugs may interact with Belok Zok Mite®:

  • Other antihypertensive agents:
    When combining Belok Zok Mite® (like all other beta blockers) with other antihypertensive drugs (e.g. Diuretics (Water tablets), Nitrates, Calcium antagonists) it can become a excessive lowering of blood pressure come, so here should be dosed carefully and controlled.
  • Medicines used to treat irregular heartbeat:
    A combination of Belok Zok Mite® with Calcium channel blockers which also work on the heart (Verapamil and Diltiazem), is contraindicated due to the Risk of cardiac arrhythmias (AV block). For this very reason, the combination of Belok Zok Mite® with other Drugs used to treat irregular heartbeat (Antiarrhythmics, e.g. amiodarone, sotalol) should be done carefully.
  • Antidiabetic drugs:

  • Circulatory disorders in the early stages (e.g. Raynaud's Syndrome)
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease such as COPD
  • psoriasis (Psoriasis).

In the case of liver dysfunction, the dose must be adjusted carefully, as Belok Zok Mite® is then excreted less.

In the pregnancy and Lactation Belok Zok Mite® should only be used after carefully weighing the risks and benefits.
