definition

Hearing aids or hearing aids! What should these terms tell us? Naturally! A device that can help us to discreetly but effectively to good hearing, sometimes even even allowed to hear! But how are these devices structured? Can such a hearing aid device help at all? And if so, which of the many is suitable for me? How do I care for my hearing aid? All these questions should be addressed in outline and be given to their topic food for thought!

history

First of all, the history of hearing aids. Listening reduction does not occur in our days. No, as early as 1650 the Jesuit priest Athanasius Kircher described his invention of a so-called "hearing machine". This probably consisted of a kind of listening funnel.
But as primitive as this remedy may seem, it has had some, if small, success. The research of the priest was probably based more on trial and error, because only in 1812 described an unknown author his researched findings of the physical sound conduction on the tube.
Eight years later, in 1820, Pastor Dunker patented his "flexible pipe listening machine". He had connected a hard rubber funnel to a hose between 8 and 12 feet long. For this device, he had written a 12-page instructions for use. Apparently, some simplifications still needed to be made.
When electric power was discovered at the end of the 19th century, a new era in hearing aid technology began. So Edison announced in 1901 his already quite useful for the time "coal granular transmitter", a first so-called telephony device. Even Queen Alexandra of England used such a hearing aid in 1901 for the coronation ceremonies, but it was built by Miller Reese Hutchinson, who thanked her by awarding her a medal.
Over time, the devices became smaller, more manageable and even wearable on the body. That was a big improvement over the first table hearing aids.
From 1950 began the development of body-worn hearing aids with amplifier tubes.
Seven years later, the transistor was invented, which led to miniaturization of the components. But because the rubbing noise of the clothes still disturbed, the technicians concentrated more on developing a device to be worn on the head. The result of these efforts was behind-the-ear hearing aids.
In the late 1980s, patients became more and more interested in an in-the-ear hearing aid, whose amplification was initially sufficient only for low to moderate hearing impairments.
The current digital age has brought the audiophile a big leap forward. Never before have there been such small and powerful hearing aids / hearing aids as in our time.

Hearing Aids

Hearing aids generally amplify the volume level of all sounds and sounds. But this does not happen evenly, but quiet tones are positively amplified, while moderately loud or loud tones are regulated down to a pleasant volume as possible.
As a result, hearing aids adapt quietly as well as in noisy surroundings to the soundworld volume as optimally as possible.
A hearing system is a small amplifier system with the following components:

  • a microphone,
  • an amplifier that processes the signal mostly digitally,
  • a miniature speaker, also called a listener,
  • either a custom acrylic or silicone earmold or custom housing for a custom in-the-ear hearing system
  • and a battery.

Although many hearing impairments are effectively compensated, modern hearing aids are unfortunately not suitable for any form of hearing loss and do not always succeed in restoring a 100% normal hearing ability. However, in order to strengthen the world of sound in your environment and to make it as individual as possible audible and understandable, they were developed.
This makes everyday life easier in many places: It can be intensively engaged in conversations with acquaintances and relatives. Normal activities, such as shopping, etc. can be carried out independently and independently.
Often hearing aid users find that they no longer feel so tired and isolated. There are different models available today for the different types of hearing loss. And the design has been significantly improved and quite richer.
Thanks to the rapid development of microelectronics, hearing aids are now available that amplify more than just sound signals and usually ensure a long-lasting successful supply. Many hearing instruments work with complete integrative signal processing (ISP). This technology allows for optimal signal reproduction by tuning to the acoustic environment.

The core of the technology is a so-called Dynamic Integrator . Here you can save all personal settings and sound preferences. These then flow dynamically into the process of sound processing and enable optimum sound quality. Other system modules, such as multiple microphone systems or the digital noise and feedback suppression allow the best possible natural sound and thus best speech understanding.

How to get to a hearing system

Hearing Aids

The first step should be a visit to an ear, nose and throat doctor. This should perform a detailed hearing diagnosis with examination and testing of your hearing in order to capture objective and subjective components of existing hearing.
If there is a hearing loss that can be treated by a hearing aid, the ENT specialist will issue a prescription.
So you can now go to a hearing care professional of his choice. He should then advise and inform you individually and in detail about a suitable hearing aid.
This also applies to the partial financing of a physician-prescribed hearing by statutory health insurance with a fixed amount. All other information should be obtained from your hearing care professional.
Furthermore, a hearing aid should be adjusted to suit your personal needs and reasonable personal needs.
An important prerequisite for your lasting satisfaction and a long-term hearing success is not only this intensive initial consultation, but also the ongoing technical support and advice on questions of care and treatment by the hearing aid acoustician dar.

Care and Maintenance

Because modern hearing instruments are technologically advanced products that require careful treatment and care to ensure the longest possible trouble-free lifespan, it is advisable to follow the instructions of the trusted hearing care professional. Although most hearing aids are easy to use, the variety of models and materials used provides different care and operating advice. An exemplary list of care instructions should, however, already avoid the grossest mistreatment of your hearing system:
To clean the hearing aid, it should only be wiped with a soft, dry cloth.
Never clean a hearing aid with water or other liquids on your own responsibility. Exceptions are special care products, which can be obtained with further tips for everyday care at his hearing care professional.
If the sound outlet is blocked by earwax or moisture, it is advisable to use a special tool to remove the earwax and use a bellows to remove the moisture.

Where should one renounce hearing aids?

When swimming or showering, the hearing instrument must be removed, as penetrating water can seriously affect the function of the device.
You should also remove your hearing aid before you blow dry your hair or use hair spray or cosmetics (also sunscreen creams!).
The same applies during an examination with ultrasound, CT, X-ray irradiation or similar.
Avoid exposing your hearing aid to direct sunlight or excessive heat (for example on the heater)!

Aufbewarung

Always store your hearing aid in the designated shockproof case and out of the reach of children.
At night, you should store your hearing aid in a designated dry bag or a dry box, which removes the harmful moisture from the devices and thus increases the life. But do not forget to remove the battery first.
The earmolds should be placed overnight in a special cleaning fluid to rid them of residues such as earwax, etc.
Please switch off the hearing aids when not in use. In case of prolonged disuse, you should also remove the battery and keep it cool and dry.

Summary

Since we people in everyday life are quite dependent on our sense of hearing, whether it be for the maintenance of our social contacts, to communicate vital or dangerous events or to the pleasantly relaxing experience of nature, it is an important task to promote this meaning and functional for as long as possible to obtain.
Just to hearing aids and hearing aids are used. Given the enormous choice between behind-the-ear, in-the-ear, hearing-aid, intoxicant and cochlear implants, most of which still have several specialized subspecies, it is very important to diagnose one's own hearing problem diagnostically. but also to find the right hearing aid for your own diagnosis. But once the right hearing aid found and well maintained, it should be a faithful and extremely useful companion! A successful search!
