Nasic® - nasal spray for children

The Nasic ® nasal spray for children is a nasal spray specially developed for children between the ages of 2 and 6 years. By reducing the dosage of the active ingredient xylometazoline, which is lower than normal nasal spray, the child's nasal mucosa is spared. At the same time it contains ingredients that promote wound healing in the nasal mucosa. It is mainly used for a stuffy and runny nose, as it occurs as a symptom in the context of a classic cold.

Due to the decongestant effect Nasic ® nasal spray can be used for children in the context of various diseases. It is most commonly used for clogged and runny nose and runny nose.
In addition, the nasal spray is also commonly used in clinics. In addition to the supportive effect in the treatment of skin and mucosal damage in the nose, it can also improve a limited breathing after surgical procedures on the nose.
The nasal spray can also be used in other diseases of the ear, nose and throat. With an inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, the nasal spray leads to an improvement in the symptoms due to the decongestant effect. In the case of middle ear infection, the decongestant effect can better aerate the middle ear and thus heal the infection.

The nasal spray for children by Nasic ® combines two active ingredients: xylometazoline and dexpanthenol . Xylometazoline is found in numerous nasal sprays and causes a contraction of the vessels in the nasal mucosa. As a result, less secretion gets into the nose and the mucous membrane swells. To protect the child's nasal mucosa, Nasic ® nasal spray for children offers xylometazoline in significantly lower doses.
The combination with dexpanthenol additionally protects the damaged mucous membrane and at the same time stimulates wound healing. As part of the infection, minor tears in the nasal mucosa arise. The action of dexpanthenol helps to heal these wounds. Nasic ® nasal spray for children contains the same dose of dexpanthenol as Nasic ® nasal spray for adults.

side effects

The proper use of Nasic ® nasal spray for children rarely causes side effects. Occasionally (1 to 10 in every 1, 000 patients) hypersensitivity reactions in the skin and mucous membranes may occur. These are incompatibilities with the ingredients of the nasal spray. Hypersensitivity reactions may be manifested by rash, itching or increased swelling. In addition, in rare cases (1 to 10 out of 10, 000 patients) side effects in the area of the cardiovascular system are to be expected. These can be felt by heart palpitations, an accelerated pulse or a slight increase in blood pressure. These side effects are due to the fact that even in low concentrations the active substance can enter the bloodstream and affect other vessels as well as the heart. In very rare cases restlessness, insomnia, tiredness and headache are possible.
In case of long-term or high-dose application of Nasic ® nasal spray, the nasal mucosa increasingly dries. The reduced mucus production in the nose weakens the immune system locally. There is a risk of colonization with other pathogens and sometimes severe inflammation.
In addition, abrupt discontinuation of high-dose therapy may lead to a so-called rebound phenomenon . This means that shortly after weaning, there is a reactive increase in swelling of the nasal mucosa.

The nasal spray should not be used more than three times daily for a maximum of one week.

Depending on the medical indication, a distinction is made between three different types of nasal sprays: decongestant nasal sprays, nourishing nasal sprays (with seawater) and hay fever sprays. In addition to Nasic ® nasal spray, decongestant nasal sprays also include numerous other sprays. The effect of this is due to the decongestant effect of xylometazoline . Nourishing nasal sprays with seawater lead via a care of the nasal mucosa to a slow nasal release and healing of the mucous membrane. Hay fever sprays are used to care for the nose and improve breathing in case of allergies.
