introduction

The acromion (Greek for "shoulder bone", syn. Shoulder roof, shoulder height) is the lateral (lateral) End of the scapula bone (Spina scapulae).
The acromion forms the highest point of the shoulder blade in humans. It is a flattened bone process that attaches to the lateral (lateral) End of the shoulder blade.

Function of the acromion

The Acromion forms together with the collarbone (Clavicle) the bony basis of the shoulder. On the one hand, it serves as a Point of origin of muscles, on the other hand it forms a articulated connection with the adjacent collarbone, which allows the shoulder to be rotated against the collarbone.

anatomy

The Acromion is in different surfaces divided, especially the upper surface (Facies superior) serves as a starting point for various muscles.
The following parts of the acromion are roughened and are used for Deltoid muscle as point of origin:

  • upper surface (Facies superior)
  • lateral (lateral) Edge of the acromion

The other two parts of the deltoid muscle find their origin in different places on the shoulder. your common starting point is a roughened surface on Humerus (Deltoid tuberosity).
The deltoid muscle has several functions:

  • He determines the contour of the shoulder
  • He is involved in almost all shoulder movements. However, its main function is that Spreading movement of the arm in the shoulder to the side (Abduction).

To the lateral edge of the shoulder blade lies the Bones just under the skin and can be easily felt here.
At the center (medial) Edge of the acromion makes this one articulated connection with the collarbone (Clavicle). This joint is called the Shoulder joint (Articulatio acromioclavicularis) designated. In this joint the shoulder blade rotates (Scapula) against the collarbone (Clavicle). The Restriction of this movement is mainly due to the Band between acromion and clavicle (Acromioclavicular ligament) caused.
