Atacand® is one of the AT1 receptor antagonists, another group of blood pressure medication, also attack the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Compared to the ACE inhibitors, however, they have a different point of attack, namely the angiotensin 2 receptor, via which it achieves its effect. This receptor is called the AT1 receptor and is blocked by the blood pressure medication so that afterwards the angiotensin II can no longer work. As a result, blood pressure is lowered via the same mechanisms as with the ACE inhibitors.
At Atacand® is the risk of developing a if ingested Hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels) and kidney values may increase.

Furthermore, the blood pressure can drop (Hypotension) and give the patient a sense of the Vertigo feel.
In comparison with ACE inhibitors, however, occur only rarely to cough or angioedema (Quicke edema) on.
Atacand® basically has the same interactions as ACE inhibitors.
Atacand® is used as an ACE inhibitor to treat high blood pressure (arterial hypertension) as well as from chronic heart failure (chronic heart failure) used.
Compared with ACE inhibitors, which are also used for the therapy of the diseases mentioned, they show one better tolerance. However, since long-term experience is still lacking, ACE inhibitors are preferred and the AT1 antagonists are mainly used if they are intolerant.
Pregnant women such as lactating Women must not take these antihypertensive agents as they can be fatal to the unborn child.
Also should Atacand® in diseases of the kidney, namely with functional disorders and narrowing of the renal artery (Renal artery stenosis), cannot be used. Also a combination with Potassium-sparing diuretics or a simultaneous administration of potassium should be avoided.
Finally, there is a contraindication for certain heart diseases. Which includes Valvular heart disease (Aortic stenosis, Mitral valve stenosis) and Cardiomyopathy.
