A cough syrup (antitussive) is a medicine that suppresses or dampens the urge to cough. Most often, the basis for a cough syrup is a simple syrup (syrupus simplex, purified water and table sugar) or an alcoholic solution.
There are many brands and manufacturers from which you can buy cough syrups in pharmacies and sometimes also in drugstores. But there is also the option of simply making your own cough syrup. Below are some recipes.
For this, several lemons are peeled and then cut into thin slices. These are then placed layer by layer in a bowl and each layer is individually thickly sprinkled with sugar. This is then left to steep for 12-14 hours and then from the pulp, juice and sugar 3 times a day. 1 tbsp each taken. The rest is kept in the refrigerator.

Dried Icelandic moss can be bought in the pharmacy. Take two heaped teaspoons of this, pour cold water over them, bring the whole thing to a boil and then strain it off. Drink 2-3 cups lukewarm of this brew daily and sweeten with honey if necessary.
The winter vegetable black radish is cut in half and hollowed out. Then fill both halves with natural honey and let it steep for 12 hours. Take 1 tablespoon of the resulting juice daily before meals and keep the rest of the cough syrup in the refrigerator.
A handful each of thyme, peppermint, sage and Ribwort plantain Boil together in one liter of water, strain and, sweetened with honey, drink sips throughout the day (warm up again and again so that it is drunk lukewarm).
Finely chop 100 g onions, then add 100 g rock sugar and bring to the boil until the sugar has dissolved. Carefully strain the resulting brew and take 3 tbsp / day. Keep the rest in the refrigerator.

Then sprinkle the onion slices with a thick layer of sugar (2 cm thick) and place in the oven for 5 hours at 50 degrees. The sugar is liquefied by the onion juice and absorbs the antibacterial agents of the onion. Take 1 tbsp every 2 hours until the cough gets better.
Pour 0.5 L of boiling water over three teaspoons of crushed anise and three teaspoons of thyme and leave to stand for 5 minutes, covered. Add the juice of one lemon and sweeten the brew with honey. Then drink slowly as soon as it is no longer too hot.
Bring the raisins, dark rock sugar, chamomile and coltsfoot to the boil in water. Drink some of it every hour.
Bring half a liter of natural apple juice with 100 g sugar and a chopped fennel bulb to the boil and then let it steep for 10 minutes. Then take this juice spoon by spoon within 2 hours.
Briefly boil 25 g ribwort in half a liter of water and strain after half an hour. Add 175 ml forest honey when the brew has cooled to approx. 40 degrees and stir until the honey has dissolved. Once cooled, pour it into a bottle and close it. Take one teaspoon of the juice three times a day.
