Valoron ® N retard is a common pain reliever from the opioid group and is used for severe and very severe chronic pain of various causes. The term "retard" describes the longer-lasting effect when ingested (longer than 12 hours) in contrast to non-retarded preparations.
To protect against abuse, Valoron consists on the one hand of the pain-relieving component tilidine and on the other hand of the opioid counterpart naloxone. When given intravenously, naloxone neutralizes the effect of tilidine, which is why abuse (substitute drug) of the drug by drug addicts is prevented.
